Loughborough v. Leeds Met (Away)
Loughborough went to Leeds Met having worked on their tactics, positive that they could bring it to the home side after a crushing defeat the week before. And indeed they started well. For the first twenty minutes of the match, Loughborough proved to be the better side, camped in Met’s 22 with only the final try scoring flourish lacking, Met could not make any chances for themselves and looked to be in trouble.
Eventually Met crossed the try line, however, Loughborough did not let their heads drop and, aware that they could really have a chance against these girls continued to battle on with unbelievable brutality.
Loughborough were dealt a blow part way through the second half with an injury to a key player as centre Ludi Lacrosse left the field with a badly broken finger. From this point onwards, Met seemed to gain the upper hand and despite Loughborough fighting for their pride right until the bitter end and Captain Danielle Allen moving from the number 8 to the scrum half position, they simply could not hold Met back. Fiona Jones and Amy Sheldrake put in heroic performances, but to no avail.
Loughborough left the pitch at full time with a heart wrenching 80- 0 defeat to last years Premiership North champions but with fire in their hearts to work hard for the up and coming knockouts.
