BUCS Premiership Women’s’ Rugby
Loughborough v. Leeds Met (Home)

For the Loughborough Student’s this was it, the grudge match, the must win. The winner of this match between the top two seeds would find themselves in good stead for the looming knock outs in March and the chance to play at Twickenham.

From the offset, Leeds Met looked like the polished side we expected, scoring an early try from the centre, neatly converted from ex- England U20’s fly half Claire Garner. This score was swiftly followed by a second from Met after the restart as they dodged around Loughborough’s missed tackles.

Loughborough begin to pick up their game and take it to the opposition, working hard in the forwards and a fantastic try saving tackle from Loughborough full-back Siobhan Eastham. Very soon, however, it became clear that Met were as ruthless as ever as they began to prove themselves superior to Loughborough, dominating in the backs to run in try after try.

However, the Loughborough forwards were commended for their hard work, dominating in the scrum with Danielle Allen, Ellie Phillips and Tara Wheeldon working particularly hard to release the strong running Eastham. Despite this, Loughborough ended half time 33 points to nil down.

The start of the second half saw the home side making a positive start and Amy Sheldrake plant some of her trademark rib crunching tackles on anyone in a green shirt. Unfortunately, Met had begun the second half with just as much positivity, magnetised towards the Loughborough try line. Eastham, Emily Clews and Beth Newton gave their team some late chances but, in the end, it wasn’t to be and Met went home with a 57-0 win.
