Loughborough Students RFC 7 - 40 Barbarian FC

Loughborough Students RFC played one of the biggest game's in their history in front of over 3,000 spectators from all across the country. The venue was the new and very impressive Loughborough University Stadium sat on the west side of the university campus.

It was a game where both sides, as they are renowned for, wanted to play open, running rugby. Unfortunately the weather had other ideas, with rain falling from around one hour before kick off until well beyond the end.

The game, however, did see plenty of tries - The Barbarians scoring six to Loughborough’s one, from captain Russell Weir. At one stage the score was 7 - 14 with the Students camped firmly on Andy Robinson's Barbarians side. Unfortunately for David Morris' young side the pressure was soaked up and the Baa Baas scored in the last play of the first half to take half time to 7 - 21.

In the second half the rain began to belt down and the game remained tight. However, the Barbarians scored a try to put the game just beyond the Students reach before two late scores gave a glossy 7 - 40 win to the Barbarians. Full report to follow.
